The current exhibit at Rice Gallery is “Garden Object,” an installation by Rosario Hurtado and Roberto Feo, who run a design studio called El Ultimo Grito. The garden they’ve created at Rice is rather otherworldly, as gardens go. Here’s a link to the “making of” video, definitely worth 2 minutes of your day. For more information, including the artistic statement, visit the Rice Gallery site.
The Soaring Cost of a Single Breath
January 25 – February 22, 2014
Opening reception: Saturday January 25, 5-7 PM

This month I'm featuring a number of my favorite Houston artists and art exhibits. These paintings are by Wendy Wagner. The first one is called "They're Always Watching," and the second is "Ice Island."
Today I got to see the Leonardo Drew exhibit at the Blaffer Gallery on the UH campus. The exhibit combines grids (I love grids), wild texture, found objects, and obsessive detail–all painted over with a coat of rust. Yes, rust. Leonardo Drew is definitely an artist to watch out for.
