The San Francisco Emotion Map is a project brought to us by Christian Nold and sponsored by Southern Exposure.   

Here’s how it worked: 98 participants walked around the Mission District in San Francisco.  Each participant wore a Bio Mapping device which recorded the wearer’s Galvanic
Skin Response (GSR),  an indicator of emotional arousal
in conjunction with their geographical location. The volunteers also made comments into recording devices as they explored the neighborhood.

By plotting GSR in relation to geography, Nold produced an “emotion map” that highlights points of high and low arousal. Nold has constructed maps that
provide a powerful visual image demonstrating how specific locations are experienced by members of that community.
